⇒ Background: Genessica’s story begins at the apex of the winter solstice at the morning she was born. Her mother, Grace, was a house servant of the Clan Leader of the Clan Greyfield. The name of Greyfield calls back to the time where the original patriarch whom claimed the valley to settle. Her very birth wasn’t one that the head clan family wanted but they could not stop what nature began.
Genessica’s father was the second son of the current clan chief. Boyd Greyfield wasn’t more than a hunter, even though he had the same gifts as his family as a carpenter. Hamish, the clan chief, let his favorite son do as he please all the while pushing his oldest son, Angus, to learn the ways of becoming the next chief. Now, it wasn’t her birth that was the issue but rather that she and Boyd wasn’t a union. His wife was named Sarah, and at the time of conception of Genessica, was in the final months of her pregnancy. Still, the affair wasn’t something that was covered up as it was one of those poorly kept secret that somehow evaded Genessica’s ears until much later.
As she grew, she was allowed to play with those she would later to find out was her half brothers and cousins. Boyd never really accepted Genessica as his own as he never understood why he did what he did.
Time quickly passes and at the age of seven Genessica was given a named statue to the clan. Meaning she was accepted to the clan as one of them except her mother wasn’t given such honor, mostly due to the strangeness of the relationship between her and Boyd.
Genessica’s life was going well until her ninth birthday. There in the room she shared with her mother in Boyd’s Manor, she was awakening from her sleep by something strange. The very being of the room was silence in an unnatural way as well as nothing seemed to move as she could see an insect frozen in flight. But it was the woman of light with a mane of hair that flowed like flames of reds, amber, pale blue and white in color.
Genessica could barely move as the world felt heavy to her. Already, her mind was panicking believing a demon from the underworld had come for her soul. It would take, what felt like, minutes of this woman telling her she was the Goddess of her mother’s bloodline. That she wasn’t there to do nothing more than inform her of what is about to happen.
She would tell Genessica that she was known as the Light to her mother’s ancestors and that she was there under special allowances of those who were the creators of this world. She had no power to change any out come in this would and only had the power that these Gods and Spirits allowed to wield.
As it was, her mother’s ancestors were summoned to this world by a group known as the Scarlet Scourge. These people were out to take control over lands at the behest of demonic gods whom they serve. These zealots had summoned people from another world where they where born with powers to corrupt others over time. For generations, people of her mother’s bloodline were used to do their bidding without even knowing it themselves as they had a deviling planted in their minds.
Now, the latest plan was plotted to assassinate the current chief and the entire first son’s family allowing Boyd to ascend to the role of clan chief. As details were explained over and over, it was the fact she was told who her father was that truly shocked her.
The next morning, Genessica would stand before the chief telling him in detail of everything she was told in her dream in front of her father and Angus. Details of the plot pieced together strange events that were happening throughout the village with many things that it was impossible for Genessica to even know about.
Her father was enraged that she was saying all of this in front of the chief and the elders whom were gathered there for the morning meeting. Even after the use of magic to try and force out the truth that her story never changed was when her words were deemed truthful. Now, they were smart enough not to blame nether in the plot. Still, her father wanted to have nothing to do with Genessica after this.
Angus would take Genessica under his wing to teach her the ways of her family’s profession. Mostly, to take the responsibility to what his brother will not and to keep an eye on her as the investigation would continue. Mainly due to how her words on explaining how to remove the effects of the runes of corruption that was found throughout the village.
As time moves on, no one would think twice about those events believing the threat was ended. Her mother was given to Angus as Boyd abandoned all ties to Genessica and Grace. But as time past, Boyd began to change as well as his wife. To the point to where her half brothers refused to live with their parents.
At the time of Genessica was about to do the ritual of coming to the age of adulthood at the age of 14, terror would spread through the village as a corrupted boar would tear through town. A good portion of the townspeople were killed. It was said that Hamish died protecting his grandchildren from the boar while Genessica was learning the rites at the local temple. What shocked everyone, Boyd had killed the boar in the end with some special arrows he had created from what he claimed to be steel and silver.
Boyd’s first acts were to exile Genessica to the outskirts of the village without giving the change to greave her mother’s death, which also perished at the boar’s rampage. She wasn’t allowed to leave the valley as to not wanting some outside force to take claim of the valley through marriage. Though, it wasn’t out of the possibilities for him to use her as a bargain chip with other villages to make alliances with.
There Genessica would spend years building her home and trying to obey the ruling of her father. Never once giving them reason to do worse than what was already done. The villager had little choice in the decision but they gave her the minimum for her to survive and march on. No one wanted to be on the receiving end of Boyd’s reign as people would vanish for days and return changed.
Upon her 18th birthday she would once again be visited by the Light and this time it was during the sun rise as she sat at the bridge of the village watching the sun peek out from behind the mountains.
“In seven days,” the Light began, “there will come a flood. The power of this world’s creation has declared that the world will be made over. The corruption of evil and greed as taken hold and the flood will begin the world anew. Those whom are worthy will be sent to new lands and the corrupted will hopefully be washed away.”
Genessica knew there was something she wasn’t being told but she knew who ever this was had powers beyond her understanding. She marveled at how the world stood silent and still. Even the great sun in the sky hadn’t move the slightest.
The Light told of the deal she had brokered for Genessica’s clan. Those freed from the corruption shall inherit a valley rich in everything they would ever need but there was a cost. Genessica knew it was that she couldn’t go. The runes of corruption she would find appearing about the home she built herself may not have affected her but she was touched by their corruption. But the Light told her it was not. There will be a decision that she will make and will understand when that time will come. Then like she had came the Light was gone once more.
Over the next few days Genessica would secretly build boats into the roofs of all those in the village. She was going to ensure all her people was going to survive and that the Light was wrong about many things when she first appeared. Somehow she had the energy and knowledge to do such without notice.
The 6th day the rains came as the heavens opened in a torrent that none had ever see before, The water rose forcing all to ascend up higher and higher until they were on the roofs. The wind blew the straw off the boat. In truth, many of them actually witnessed Genessica building the boat but none said a thing.
Her father appeared before her standing on the water somehow. No one in that village knew of that magic nor did her father look like himself. His face became more devilsh as did many of his most loyal followers.
His speech to her was that she needed to accept the magic that her own body rejected from allowing to become one with it or he’ll kill all of the innocent. Deep down, she already knew that no matter what she chose they wouldn’t allow the village to live. Off in the distance she had seen that wall of water many tens of times larger than any mountain on the horizon coming. Deep within herself she could hear the voice of the Light speak to her. Telling she can not interfere no more than she has and if she was to sacrifice herself to the waters that the innocent will find their way to that valley and without a thought she agreed. The waters knocked all those corrupted away from the innocent and Genessica smiles as she watches them vanish into the waters protected barriers of light. Her father shouts curses at the sight and promises he’ll hunt her down.
Genessica didn’t care as she spreads her arms out waiting for the waters to claim her. It happened once more. The Light was before her once more.
“You know they’ll never be safe if you went with them.” Her voice was soft and loving, in the tone of her mother’s. “The creators of this world will now send you to a place to where you will learn how to one day defeat those whom will come looking for you. Be safe my daughter.”
With those last words said time began again. She would be greeted by the cold waters grabbing hold of her. What little light she had allowed her to watch as her and the very landscape around being tossed away as she could see her demonic looking father stand in the air growing smaller shouting curses of revenge before the darkness of the waters takes her. She felt her head hit up against a stone wall then nothing.
She would awaken to find herself in a valley that appeared to be untouched by the waters. The old fortress she found herself in was soaked with water and mud and everything she’d need to rebuild her life. Still, she wonders who was she suppose to find in these unfamiliar lands. Then she heard a series of voices call out of the forest to the west of her. She knew she was far south of the cold lands of the north but unsure where she was. But she could feel something out there lurking in the darkness. No, the flood didn’t rid the world of the corruption and she could feel the faint prickle of that magic dancing in the shadows.
Whom was it that she had to search out for to learn from? Was she being hunted by this Scarlet Scourge that she knows that her father is a pawn of? More important, why did they want her? And why does it look like she had aged a few years, judging by the length of her hair growth?
